Painting | Water-Based Paints | Mixed Media

Painting is a wonderful way to convey creative expression & the forms used to do so are numerous. Drawing, gesture, composition, narration, or abstraction, among other aesthetic modes, may serve to establish the expressive & conceptual intention of the artist. Paintings can be naturalistic or representational as in a still life or landscape painting, photographic, abstract, narrative, symbolistic, emotive or even political in nature. Whatever your chosen style, painting is immensely rewarding. And of course there are many different types of painting materials such as magical watercolour, versatile acrylics & sumptuous oils to explore.

About: After completing her Diploma in Art & Design & achieving a B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art in 2006 at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, Surrey, Kate works on her own artwork at her studio in Emsworth as well as tutoring at Unlimited Creative. Landscape, Interiors & Still Life are subjects that continue to excite her, as well as finding new ways of working.

Course Details: This exciting course offers a fresh approach to semi-abstract painting with a blatant disregard to perspective. Inanimate objects of notable beauty & simplicity interact & overlap signifying their place within the frame. You will be encouraged to take some risks in order to experiment & find the language of the paint. Working quickly with three minute exercises to free yourself of conventional methods you can choose to work with charcoal, pastels, crayons or any other mixed media that you wish to bring along, before embarking on the finished pieces. For the landscape sessions we will begin by going outside the studio, weather permitting, to do five minute sketches over a half hour period & then back into the studio to begin painting. It would be advisable to have some landscape images with you in case the weather is unsuitable.

There will not be any teaching of technique, as it is important for you to develop your own explorations & interpretations during these sessions. Guidance will be given.
